Lucy is a Sydney-based visual communication designer who, in the words of Marie Kondo, finds the pairing of an accented colour on an off-white background to ‘spark joy’. Her design practice seeks to create dynamic, thought-provoking solutions to the important discussions that, as designers, demand our attention. Passionate about publication design and conceptually-driven outcomes, her work combines minimalist ideals with playful typographic experimentation, while designing with the intrinsic goal of sharing a story.
Celebrating the food–related practices and lifestyles of several generations of the Rouse family, this set of four concertina publications explores wayfinding through storytelling. Designed to make a culinary history accessible to modern lives, each publication reveals a unique food story, from produce sourcing to recipe making. The Cost of Affordables reveals the concealed expense of spending less in a distinctly cheap industry: the health of fast fashion garment workers. Including data visualisations that communicate the overwhelming loss of human life the industry has suffered over recent years, the publication poses the question: if it doesn't cost you, it's costing her. 'The Power of Flour: A Photographic History of Milling in Australia' is one of two coffee table books designed for the Australian Milling Museum. Celebrating Australia's rich grain milling heritage, the publication draws connections between the milling industry and its ongoing significance in our everyday lives.
