When the Drought is Over is a suite of experiments in storytelling using augmented reality, compiled in a book designed to be interacted with through a user’s smartphone. The project explores the growing anxieties caused by ongoing drought in regional NSW through stories told by my friends and family living there. The illustrations and animations in the book are built upon key moments of tension between the past and an unknown future drawn from these stories, and interactivity is used to create opportunities for readers to delve into these small-scale moments in new and engaging ways.

UTS acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the Boorooberongal people of the Dharug Nation, the Bidiagal people and the Gamaygal people, upon whose ancestral lands our university stands. We would also like to pay respect to the Elders both past and present, acknowledging them as the traditional custodians of knowledge for these lands.
